Swarthout Museum PLEASE NOTE: The Swarthout Museum is closed for renovations until mid-August. The Swarthout Museum features changing exhibits about the history of La Crosse County, about everything from local businesses to daily life in the past. A miniatures room and a children’s hands-on room are two popular permanent exhibits. The Historical Society offices and the Golden Lion Gift and Book Shop are located here as well. Closed until mid-August for renovations. Free (donation appreciated) Corner of 9th and Main Streets in La Crosse, adjacent to the Main Public Library.
